Traditional Kerala Therapies

Unlike any other martial art,Varmakalai carries a healing gift.

Four pillars of authentic care refined over generations — Kizhi, Exercise, Oil, and the ancient science of Varmakalai — practised at our centre in Tirupur.

01 · Kizhi Therapy

Kizhi

Herb-filled poultices heated and pressed on affected areas to relieve pain, inflammation and stiffness — one of Kerala's most beloved therapies.

Malsya Kizhi

Malsya Kizhi

A special kizhi made from processed malsya (fish) with select medicines, used for deep nourishment therapy.

02 · Movement Therapy

Exercise

Regular body activities enhance and maintain physical and mental fitness. Our hospital follows disease-specific exercise regimens to prevent recurrence and immunise the body.

Certain postures are strictly avoided per condition — e.g. Sheershasana in cervical issues, heavy weight-lifting in lumbar spine problems. Our technicians are personally trained to deliver safe, effective therapy.

Upcoming: Kung-fu and Kalari classes for patients and well-wishers.

03 · Medicated Oil

Oil

Our oil is traditionally prepared from the references of classical texts, made in-house. It removes inflammation of the whole body and restores healthy blood circulation.

It dissolves excess fluid and blood clots in injuries such as fractures, dislocations and sprains, and rebuilds synovial fluid in the minute joints — lubricating them naturally.

04 · The Living Science

Varmakala

Varmakala pressure points chart

Varmakalai is a traditional art of vital points — a component of traditional massage, alternative medicine and martial art in which the body's 108 pressure points (Varmam) are manipulated to heal or cause harm. The healing application, Vaidhiya Murai, is used to treat paralysis, hemiplegia, nerve disorders, sciatica, spondylitis, phlegm, stroke, arthritis and many other conditions.

According to puranic stories, Varmakalai was born of the sea during the war between Lord Siva, Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu. When Lord Vishnu fell unconscious, Lord Brahma applied adangals and revived him.

As the five elements — water, air, fire, earth and ether — evolved, Varmam appeared. It was handed from Parvathi to Nandhi Deva, then to Dhanvanthri, Lord Muruga, Agasthiyar, Bogar and the Siddhars, who preserved it for generations.

Growth & Development of Varmam

The origin of this great art is intertwined with puranic tradition. Once a martial art full of techniques known as Varma Adi or Varma attack, it was first used as medicine and later as a defensive art — shaping Kung-fu, Kalaripayattu and Silambam over time.
